GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay volleyball and Green Bay Athletics have announced that they will rename the 'Capital Credit Union Classic' to 'Kendall's Battle at the Capital Credit Union Classic'. Phoenix volleyball player Kendall Schara was diagnosed Acute Myeloid Leukemia in April of this year.
 
"Kendall's courage and outlook on her battle inspires us daily," said head coach Abbey Sutherland. "She is tough, resilient, and still practices gratitude. She is truly incredible. Naming this tournament in Kendall's honor is more than dedication - It's a way to bring her strength onto the court with us every single day. This is one small way we keep showing her just how much she means to us."
 
The event will take place from Sept. 18-20 at the Kress Center on the campus of Green Bay. The Phoenix will take on Western Michigan on Sept. 18, Tennessee Tech on Sept. 19, and Northern Iowa on Sept. 20.
 
Schara added, "Green Bay volleyball is truly special to be a part of. At first, when I learned about my diagnosis, I was scared and devastated to think I would be taken away from something I love. I quickly realized that although my experience may look different now, I will always be a part of GBVB. I have been supported by the Green Bay community in numerous ways, and I will forever appreciate feeling loved during a time like this. Having this tournament in my name is just one of the many ways I am able to stay connected, and it shows how much this program cares."
