Phoenix Men's Basketball Names Keil Ganz Assistant Coach

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's basketball team and head coach Doug Gottlieb announced the hiring of Keil Ganz as an assistant coach on Wednesday morning.

"Welcome home Coach Keil Ganz," Gottlieb said. "Keil is a Green Bay guy through and through, and we are so happy to have him with us coming from a highly successful stint at Northern Michigan. Keil is a brilliant basketball mind who will be co-defensive coordinator and help us dominate in-state recruiting. His young growing family is a great fit for us and the GB community."

Ganz joins the Phoenix from Northern Michigan University, where he was the Associate Head Coach for the past two seasons. During his most recent stint at NMU, Ganz helped guide the Wildcats to historic milestones, including their first GLIAC Regular Season Championship in 31 years, the program's first opportunity to host the conference tournament, and an NCAA Tournament berth as the No. 4 seed. During his tenure, NMU also captured the 2025 GLIAC Tournament Championship and produced a league Player of the Year in 2023-24.

"I couldn't be more excited to move back to Green Bay and work for Coach Gottlieb," Keil added. "Being a Phoenix means so much to me. Green Bay has a proud tradition of winning and culture that I was grateful to have been a part of as a student manager, and now even more am as an Assistant Coach."

Ganz was also the Assistant Coach at Northern Michigan in 2019-20 prior to his Associate Head Coach stint. During that season, the Wildcats finished third in the GLIAC North Division and garnered three wins against top 25 opponents. A stint at Southern Indiana split up his time at Northern Michigan. Ganz served as the Director of Basketball Operations at USI, overseeing team travel, budgeting, scouting preparation, and academic support.

Ganz's coaching journey also includes three seasons as an assistant at St. Norbert College, where he helped the program achieve a 57–20 record, two conference championships, and an NCAA-record 72 straight conference wins. At the high school level, he revitalized Kewaunee High School as head coach, improving the team by seven wins in his first year and leading them to a 12-game winning streak. He has also been deeply involved in AAU basketball, coaching with the Wisconsin Jets, Wisconsin Shooters, and the nationally ranked Wisconsin Playground Club.

In addition to coaching, Ganz worked as a video scout for Sports Info Solutions in 2021, creating advanced analytics tools for NBA teams, agents, and player development staff with a focus on college and international draft prospects.

A Wisconsin native, Ganz earned his degree in Business Administration–Marketing with a minor in Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay.
