Vermillion, S.D. – On Friday afternoon, the Green Bay volleyball team fell in three sets (21-25, 16-25, 14-25) to the #17 ranked Kansas Jayhawks at Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion. The Phoenix closes out the Coyote Invitation tomorrow, facing Florida Gulf Coast at 10 a.m.  

Katie Schulz led the Phoenix with 9 kills, hitting.350, while Diane Pichelman finished with 5 kills. GB got 6 digs from Emma Best and Kennedy Schmitz to lead them defensively. Emma Johnson finished the day with 16 assists. 

Kansas was led by an 18-kill performance from Grace Nelson. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

SET 1 | The Phoenix battled with the Jayhawks until the red zone, and then ended up dropping the first set 21-25. Kansas pulled out to a 20-17 lead, and GB was not able to pull the game back in reach. 
SET 2 | The Jayhawks jumped out in front in the second set, 9-3. GB was able to pull the score within three before the Jayhawks pulled away to win the set at 25-16.
SET 3 | Green Bay fell down 3-11 to start the third set and struggled to bring the game back close. Kansas ended up closing out the match by taking the third set 25-14.   

GAME NOTES 
» Green Bay's best attacking set was the first, when they finished with 11 kills on a .214 hitting percentage. 
» Kansas outscored GB 75-51 across the three sets. 

COMING UP 
GB has one more matchup this weekend in Vermillion, S.D., against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Sept. 13th at 10 a.m. Next weekend, the Phoenix is heading home to host Kendall's Battle at the Capital Credit Union Classic at the Kress Center on September 18-20.
