GREEN BAY, Wis. – On Friday night, the Green Bay volleyball team dropped a four-set match (22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 23-25) to visiting Tennessee Tech at the Kress Events Center. The Golden Eagles utilized an efficient offense and timely defense to secure the victory.
For Green Bay, Diane Pichelman led the offense with 14 kills, hitting .379. Gillian Koning added 8 kills, while Katie Schulz had 7. Pichelman also added 3 blocks. Kennedy Schmitz led GB with 14 digs, and Kayla Birmingham also finished with 11.
Bella Powell paced Tennessee Tech with 15 kills, Audrey Berkebile had 11, and Ava Schubert had 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Tennessee Tech jumped out strong to start, using a combination of solid hitting and limiting errors to take the first set 25-22. Green Bay had stretches of points but could not find a crucial run to close out the first set.
SET 2 | The Phoenix responded in the second, led by Pichelman on both sides of the ball. The sophomore finished the frame with four kills and four blocks en route to the 25-18 Phoenix victory that evened it up at a set apiece.
SET 3 | Tennessee Tech regained momentum in the third set, erasing Green Bay's chances in tight moments and pulling away at the right moment, taking it 25-22. The Phoenix offense struggled to find its footing in the set, hitting -.074.
SET 4 | In the fourth, both teams traded points the entirety of the set, but the Golden Eagles edged out the Phoenix 25-23 to seal the match. Both teams had similar offensive outputs, with Tennessee Tech finishing with 16 kills on a .293 hitting percentage while Green Bay had 12 kills on a .222 hitting percentage.

UP NEXT
Green Bay will close out the weekend tomorrow when they host Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. The Phoenix will then open Horizon League play next week when it hosts Youngstown State on Sept. 26-27.
