Phoenix to Host Purdue Fort Wayne Before Heading to Milwaukee Saturday

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's basketball team is looking to continue its unbeaten start in the Horizon League, as they face last year's runner-up, Purdue Fort Wayne, on Wednesday at the Kress Center. Following, Green Bay will travel to Milwaukee to face the Panthers on Saturday.

ABOUT THE MASTODONS
Purdue Fort Wayne is led by reigning Horizon League Coach of the Year Maria Marchesano, who helped PFW reach its first Horizon League Championship game in program history in her fourth season. The Mastodons are led by the Horizon League's top scorer, Alana Nelson, who averages a conference-best 17.2 points per game. PFW also gets 10.8 points per game from Lili Krasovec and 10.3 points from Jordan Reid, the Mastodons' lone returning starter from last season.
 
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
After starting Horizon League play 0-4, Milwaukee has gone 2-1 since, including a stunning 66-58 win over Cleveland State last Sunday, led by a season-high 20 points from Junior Jorey Buwalda. Buwalda leads Milwaukee in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game, while also leading the entire Horizon League with 9.1 rebounds per game, good for 44th among all Division I players this season. Jorey additionally leads Milwaukee with 1 block per game, 5.8 assists per game, while leading the Panthers squad with 28.3 minutes per game. Milwaukee will take on Northern Kentucky on Wednesday before hosting the Phoenix.

LAST TIME OUT
Jenna Guyer secured her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds to help the Green Bay women's basketball team stay unbeaten in conference play, defeating Detroit Mercy 74-53 on the road Saturday afternoon. In addition to Guyer's strong outing, the Phoenix (13-5, 8-0) was led by Maddy Skorupski, who had 18 points, eight assists, and two steals, and an additional 11 points from Gracie Grzesk coming off the bench.

PROTECT HOME COURT
Green Bay has been strong at home in 2025-26, starting the year 7-0. The Phoenix is 6-3 on the road and 0-2 on a neutral court.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MIDMAJOR POLL
Green Bay has been in the top five of the CollegeInsider Women's Basketball Top 25 Poll most of the season. Green Bay is currently sitting at #7 in the latest poll from January 6th.
 
MEG-NIFICANT MEGHAN
Redshirt-Sophomore Meghan Schultz has had a breakout season, and is second on the Phoenix, scoring 12.3 points and second in rebounds at 4.7 per game. Schultz has scored in double figures in 11 of GB's 18 games.
 
SKORING SKORUPSKI
Former Oakland standout and one of two Horizon League All-League players left in the league from a season ago, Maddy Skorupski, will wear the Green & White in her senior season. Skorupski is third on the team in points per game at 9.7 and second in assists per game, averaging 4.2 (also second in the HL). Skorupski is coming off a season-high 21 points at Oakland on Thursday and an 18-point outing at Detroit on Saturday. Skorupski was the second Phoenix in a row to be named Horizon League Player of the Week on Monday.
 
CARLEY COMING HOME
A disciple of Kayla Karius during their time together at South Dakota, the two-time CSC Academic All-District player of Green Bay Preble High School scored her 1,000th career collegiate point in the team's victory over Youngstown State on Dec. 7. Through 17 games, Duffney is averaging 8.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Duffney has scored in double figures in seven out of GB's 17 games. She scored a season-high 17 points on the road at Oakland last Thursday.
 
GUYER ON FIRE
Redshirt-Senior forward Jenna Guyer returned to the Phoenix lineup on Nov. 22 after an injury kept her out of the first five games of the season. In 13 games since then, Guyer has scored in double figures 11 times, including a season-high 21 points in GB's road win at Detroit Mercy on Saturday. Guyer is first on the team, averaging 14.8 points per game, and secured her second double-double of the season at Detroit, adding ten rebounds to her 21 points. Guyer was the first Green Bay player named the Horizon League Player of the Week last Monday, averaging 18.3 points and 5.6 rebounds across three games.
 
WINNING WITH KARIUS
Head Coach Kayla Karius earned her 75th career win in her fourth season as an NCAA Division I head coach with an 89-55 win against Wright State on Dec. 30, 2025.

KARIUS ERA
After winning the Horizon League and making the NCAA Tournament in her first season as the Phoenix Head Coach, Kayla Karius will look to do the same in year two with an overhauled roster. Green Bay graduated seven seniors and 85.2% of its scoring from 2024-25. The 2025-26 Phoenix features eight newcomers, consisting of six transfers and two true freshmen. After two seasons as the head coach at South Dakota and her seasons with the Phoenix, Karius holds an all-time record of 78-40.
