CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Green Bay men's basketball team drilled 15 of 30 three-pointers, pulling away late to secure an 88-73 victory against Cleveland State on the road Thursday night. With the win, Green Bay's win streak extends to five.
The Phoenix (11-8, 6-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Preston Ruedinger, who recorded a double-double with 23 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. Marcus Hall added 21 points and seven rebounds, and C.J. O'Hara chipped in with 16 points. Justin Allen was the fourth and final Phoenix in double figures, putting up 13 points.
Cleveland State was led by Tre Beard with 18 points, including four threes. Dayan Nessah added 16 points, going 8-for-8 from the free throw line, and had a team-high four assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 13-3, Green Bay went on an 11-2 run with 14:23 left in the first half, finished off by a three-pointer from Keegan Van Kauwenberg, to narrow its deficit to 15-14. Neither team led by more than five points in the rest of the first half, as Tre Beard made a three in the final seconds of the first half to give Cleveland State a 40-37 lead going into intermission.
After halftime, Green Bay gained control, taking a 51–50 lead before going on a 7–0 run, capped by an O'Hara' layup to extend the advantage to 58–50 with 13:36 remaining. The Phoenix maintained its lead at 69–61 with 8:17 left before outscoring the Vikings 19–9 to build an 88–70 cushion with 45 seconds to go. Former Phoenix guard Foster Wonders hit a late three with 28 seconds remaining for Cleveland State, and Green Bay dribbled out the clock to seal an 88–73 victory.
