GREEN BAY, Wis. - Preston Ruedinger scored 23 points, but the Green Bay men's basketball team fell to Cleveland State 89-82 at the Resch Center on Friday.
Ruedinger added eight assists and two steals to his 23-point game to lead the Phoenix (12-11, 7-5). Marcus Hall helped out with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Justin Allen chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists. C.J. O'Hara finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Dayan Nessah led Cleveland State (7-15, 4-7) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Jaidon Lipscomb added 17 points, including 5-of-9 three-pointers. Chevalier Emery scored 15 points and dished out a team-high five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay led 17-16 with 9:32 to go in the first half when Cleveland State went on a 23-7 run to take a 39-23 lead, capped off by a pair of Josiah Harris free throws. LeBron Thomas and Ruedinger both made layups in the final minutes of the first half to cut the Vikings' lead to 39-27 by halftime.
Green Bay narrowed its deficit to 70-62 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Ruedinger's three, to shrink the deficit to 70-68 with 3:23 to go in the contest. Cleveland State responded and outscored the Phoenix the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 89-82.
GAME NOTES
» CSU outrebounded GB 32-26.
» Green Bay cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 11 offensive boards in the game, compared to Cleveland State's nine.
» Both teams were efficient from three, as Cleveland State went 16-for-29 from three-point range, compared to Green Bay's 13-for-27 from beyond the arc.
» Marcus Hall led Green Bay with seven rebounds in the game.
