LAST TIME OUT
The Green Bay men's basketball team staved off a second-half comeback from Milwaukee, defeating the Panthers 79-76 Monday night at the Kress Center. Green Bay led by as much as 21, and entered halftime with a 46-32 advantage.
Justin Allen had 21 points to lead the Phoenix (8-8, 3-2).
C.J. O'Hara helped out with 19 points, and
LeBron Thomas chipped in with 12 points off the bench.
ABOUT IU INDY
IU Indy is led by first-year head coach Ben Howlett, who is in his first year at IU Indy after eight years at West Liberty. IU Indy is 4-13 so far this season, and 0-6 in Horizon League play. Kyler D'Augustino leads IU Indy, averaging 17.9 points per game. Matt Compas is second on the team, averaging 10.6 points per game. Maguire Mitchell is also a key contributor at 10.1 points per game. Finley Woodword averages 8.3 points, leads the team in rebounds at 5.2, and assists at 5.2 per game. IU Indy features one of the most explosive offenses in the league, averaging a league-high 86.5 points per game.
ABOUT NORTHERN KENTUCKY
The Norse are led by seventh-year head coach Darrin Horn, who has led the Norse to 20-win seasons three times, including two Horizon League tournament championships in 2019-20 and in 2022-23. Prior to NKU, Horn coached Western Kentucky to a Sweet Sixteen berth in his fifth and final season in 2007-08 before coaching four seasons at South Carolina from 2008-09 to 2011-12. Through 17 games this season, NKU sits at 12-5, and will play on the road at Milwaukee on Friday after picking up a 94-79 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday. Northern Kentucky is led by four double-digit scorers, with Dan Gherezgher leading the way at 17.1 points per game. Donovan Oday averages 16.2 points, Kael Robinson averages 15.6 points per game, and LJ Wells averages 13.3 points while leading the Norse with 8.2 rebounds per game. NKU is the second-best scoring offense in the HL, averaging 84.4 points per game.
PROTECT HOME COURT
Green Bay has had early success at home during the 2025-26 season, sitting at 4-1. Green Bay is also 2-1 in neutral-site contests. Green Bay is 1-6 on the road in 2025-26.
PHOENIX RISING
Green Bay sits at a record of 8-8 through 16 games. Last year at the same point, GB was 2-14. It took just nine games for the 2025-26 Phoenix to match the win total of the 2024-25 Phoenix. GB has already exceeded its Horizon League win total from a year ago quickly, having finished 2-18 in league play last year. The Phoenix is 3-2 through five Horizon League games.
MONEY MARCUS
Phoenix forward
Marcus Hall is picking up where he left off last season. Through 13 games, Hall is averaging team highs with 13.8 points and 5.0 rebounds in 33.8 minutes per game. Hall was named to the Horizon League Preseason First Team on October 8. Hall set a new season-high in Green Bay's win over UCSB on Dec. 17, scoring 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting, while shooting 5-of-7 from three-point range.
O'MAZING O'HARA
C.J. O'Hara is in his second season at Green Bay and has started in all 16 games so far this season. O'Hara is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.9 points, second on the team in rebounds at 4.6, and third on the team at 30.8 minutes per game. O'Hara has in double figures in 13 of his 16 starts, including 19 points on a perfect, career-high 8-of-8 shooting day in GB's 79-76 win versus Milwaukee on Monday.
CLUTCH RUDY
A prominent leader for the Phoenix is Redshirt Senior guard
Preston Ruedinger. Along with
C.J. O'Hara, Ruedinger has started all 16 games so far and plays the second-most minutes per game on the team at 33.4. Ruedinger made history with a career-high 13 assists vs UCSB, the seventh-most in a game in program history. Ruedinger scored a career-high 30 points in a win against Haskell on Nov. 29.
ALL-IN ALLEN
Senior guard
Justin Allen had a heroic effort in Green Bay's wins on Thursday at PFW and on Monday vs Milwaukee. The Carnegie Mellon transfer scored 21 points in both games and averaged 4.5 rebounds in the two-game stretch. In Green Bay's final two games of the Paradise Jam Tournament last November, in which he was named to the All-Tournament Team, Allen scored 27 and 28 points off the bench for the Phoenix. Allen is the team's third leading scorer at 12.4 points per game.
KING LEBRON
Junior guard
LeBron Thomas led the way for Green Bay in their last game against IU Indy on Dec. 11. The transfer from Vincennes CC led the way for Green Bay with 20 points on 3-of-4 shooting, including a historic 14-of-16 from the free throw line, ranking him seventh all-time in program history in free throws made in a game. LeBron chipped in a critical 12 points for his third double-digit scoring effort in Green Bay's 79-76 victory over Milwaukee on Monday.
YEAR TWO
Heading into the 2025-26 season,
Doug Gottlieb enters his second year as the head coach of Green Bay men's basketball. Gottlieb, well-known for his broadcasting career, brings with him a wealth of experience as a player, commentator, analyst, and coach in the basketball world. Coach Gottlieb announced after Wednesday's win over UCSB that he will be taking a break from hosting The Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio for the time being.
INTERNATIONAL TALENT
The 2025-26 Phoenix roster features players from two different foreign countries and 11 from different U.S. states.
Maruan Cicic is from Montenegro, and
Vukasin Todorovic is from Slovenia.
NEW ERA SAME RISE
After a season with 12 newcomers a season ago, the 2025-26 Green Bay roster will bring in 10 newcomers this year. Of GB's rostered players, six are returners, six are transfers, and four are true freshmen.
FAMILIAR FACES
Multiple returners will play large roles in the upcoming 2025-26 season, including
Marcus Hall,
Preston Ruedinger,
Mac Wrecke, and
C.J. O'Hara. Last season, Hall averaged 13.9, Ruedinger averaged 8.0, Wrecke averaged 6.1, and O'Hara averaged 4.0 points per game.
Caden Wilkins and
Brady Fitzgerald are the other two returners to the Phoenix squad.
