WATCH US RISE
Third-year head coach
Doug Gottlieb guided the Green Bay Phoenix to one of the best one-year turnarounds in the country last season, improving the team's win total by 14 games year over year. Over the summer, Gottlieb signed a contract extension with the Phoenix in June, inking him through the 2030-31 season. The 2026-27 Green Bay roster brings in 10 newcomers, with the Phoenix returning just six players from 2025-26. The GB roster includes eight transfers and two true freshmen.
IN FOR THE LONG 'HALL'
In the spring, Senior
Marcus Hall announced his return to Green Bay for his senior season. The native of Schofield, Wis., committed out of D.C. Everest High School to play for the Phoenix for then-head coach Sundance Wicks, before being retained by
Doug Gottlieb when he was hired as Head Coach in the spring of 2024. Hall was announced as a member of the Horizon League's Preseason All-League First Team in October, after averaging 13.9 points per game in each of his last two seasons.
OTHER RETURNERS
Green Bay's five other returners include
Keegan Van Kauwenberg,
Mac Wrecke,
Maruan Cicic,
Brady Fitzgerald, and
LeBron Thomas. Four of which were members of the regular rotation for the 2025-26 team.
LeBron Thomas will look to step into a bigger role this season, after the Phoenix graduated its All-League guard,
Preston Ruedinger, last year. Ruedinger has joined the team as an Assistant Coach. Thomas appeared in 32 games, starting six. His Phoenix career-high was a 20-point performance on the road at IU Indy on Jan. 9, 2026, where he went a stellar 14-for-16 from the free throw line.
MEET AHMERE
Ahmere Carson led the Phoenix in scoring through three games of exhibition play, highlighted by a 29-point outburst against Marquette, 27 of which came in the first half. Carson went 5-of-6 from three, and 11-of-14 from the floor in 24 minutes. Carson scored 11 points while also bringing down a team-high nine rebounds and dishing three assists in the 79-71 win over Illinois in the final exhibition of the preseason.
BALLER BROWN
Junior guard
Ne'quan Brown led Green Bay in his Phoenix debut against Lawrence with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor while also going 4-for-5 from the free throw line in the win. Brown additionally tallied three rebounds and one steal.
ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE(JOY)
A Graduate transfer from Detroit Mercy,
Orlando Lovejoy was named to the Horizon League's All-League First Team and All-Defensive Team last season with the Titans. He averaged 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in two seasons at Detroit, scoring double-digits in 49 of his 61 starts for the Titans. In Lovejoy's lone exhibition start, he scored ten points in the eight-point victory over Illinois State, pulling down four rebounds and two assists for Green Bay.
HORIZON LEAGUE RISE
Green Bay was picked to finish third in the conference this year, with 367 points in the Horizon League Preseason Poll. Defending champions Wright State were picked to finish in first place by the league's coaches and media members. A year ago, Phoenix head coach
Doug Gottlieb clinched Green Bay's first trip to Indianapolis in the Horizon League Quarterfinals since 2020, finishing with an 18-15 record in his second season. Gottlieb will welcome three new staff members to the sideline, including All-League point guard
Preston Ruedinger and former SIUE Associate Head Coach
Colin Schneider as Assistant Coaches.
