Guyer Goes for Career-High on Senior Day as Phoenix Down Milwaukee

GREEN BAY, WI -- Jenna Guyer scored a career-high 23 points on senior day to help lead the Green Bay women's basketball team over the Milwaukee Panthers 91-57 at home Saturday in front of the largest crowd of the season. With the win, the Phoenix locked up the Horizon League Regular Season Title outright.

The Phoenix (21-7, 16-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Guyer, who had 23 points and six rebounds. Meghan Schultz tacked on 18 points and Carley Duffney helped out with 16 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Green Bay did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 27 assists while turning the ball over eight times. Maddy Skorupski's team-high 11 assists were half of a ten point double-double. Kamy Peppler also contributed with six assists of her own against her former team.

The Green Bay defense held Milwaukee shooters to only 36.1 percent from the field. The Panthers did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only seven offensive rebounds and scored six second chance points while Green Bay pulled down 32 defensive rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Green Bay started out the scoring by going on a 13-0 run to take an early lead with 5:04 left in the first quarter. The Phoenix then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 24-12 advantage. Green Bay did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 24 points close to the basket.

Green Bay kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 9:04 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Guyer, to increase its lead to 33-15. The Phoenix proceeded to tack on five points to that lead and enjoyed a 49-26 advantage heading into halftime. Green Bay saw non-starters score eight of its 25 total points off the bench in the quarter.

After halftime, Green Bay added to its advantage and owned a 65-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Green Bay played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 16 points in the paint.

Green Bay kept widening that lead, expanding it to 78-50 before going on an 11-0 run to grow the lead to 89-50 with 2:10 to go in the contest. The Panthers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Phoenix still cruised the rest of the way for the 91-57 win.
