GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay Athletics
Mark Murphy Endowed Director of Athletics
Josh Moon has announced that the University has agreed to a contract extension with men's basketball head coach
Doug Gottlieb through the 2030-31 season, reinforcing its commitment to the continued growth and success of the Phoenix men's basketball program.
"Doug is building a program that this entire region can be proud of year in and year out," said Moon. "He is recruiting the right kind of guys that put in the work to excel in the classroom and on the court, while positively impacting this community. We are excited to watch the continued growth of this program under Doug's leadership."
Gottlieb, who was named the 10th head coach in program history in May 2024, has worked to establish a strong foundation for Green Bay men's basketball both on and off the court. Gottlieb guided the men's basketball team this past season to one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA History. The Phoenix boosted their win total by 14 games; finishing tied for third in the Horizon League standings in 2025-26. From there, they won their first playoff game since the 2019-2020 season, snapping a five-year drought. Down the stretch of last season, the men's basketball team finished the season with a 17-10 record in the final 27 games of the year. Senior
Preston Ruedinger led the team down the stretch, who Gottlieb helped guide to All-League Second Team Honors.
"I am supremely appreciative of Chancellor Mike Alexander and
Josh Moon in awarding me this contract extension," added Gottlieb. "Green Bay is just an incredible place to live, work, and grow, and the next five years our goal is to return the Phoenix to our rightful spot at or near the top of the Horizon League every single year. To our Phans, I remain grateful to your support, to our donors, you are truly helping us build something special, and to our student athletes, they know who will be their coach during their time in Green Bay."
Gottlieb has also led the program to new heights in the classroom during his tenure. This past season, the Horizon League recognized two Green Bay players for their 2025-2026 Valeo Men's Basketball All-Academic Team:
Marcus Hall and
Preston Ruedinger. Green Bay was the only school to have multiple players represented. In the Spring of 2026, the team also achieved the highest team GPA in program history, with a 3.40 GPA.
