MILWAUKEE - The Green Bay women's soccer team (5-7-4) had its 2008 season come to an end Sunday afternoon, as the Phoenix dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 18 Milwaukee in the quarterfinal round of the 2008 Horizon League Championship.
Milwaukee (16-2-2), boasting the highest national ranking in team history, got on the board just 1:11 into the contest and never looked back.
Louise Vraney led the Panthers with a goal and two assists, while Sarah Hagen, the NCAA leader in goals per game, tallied her 21st score of the season.
Milwaukee out-shot the Phoenix 27-1, including a 15-0 margin in the first half. Senior Claire Townsend (West Bend, Wis.) had the lone shot on goal for the Phoenix.
Green Bay goalkeeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton, Wis.) made seven of Green Bay's nine saves. Milwaukee net minder Erin Kane made one save for the shutout.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Trevor Warren, Green Bay finished the year with a 5-7-4 record, improving on last season's 2-16-0 mark.
