Phoenix Drops 1-0 Decision to Wright State

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's soccer team (4-9-2, 2-3-1 Horizon League) fell by a score of 1-0 to conference opponent Wright State (9-5-2, 4-1-0) Friday night at a chilly Santaga Stadium. It was the first home loss for the Phoenix this season, snapping a seven-match home unbeaten streak dating back to 2008.

WSU sophomore Brittany Persaud's early goal was all the Raiders needed in the win. Persaud drilled the ball into the lower left corner of the net past Phoenix keeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton, Wis.) for her fifth goal of the season in the 15th minute.

The Raiders controlled the first period, holding a 12-2 shot advantage at halftime. However, the Phoenix came on strong in the second half, evening the possession battle and tallying five shots after intermission. WSU ended the match leading 19-7 in shots and 13-1 in corner kicks.

Keeping Green Bay off the scoreboard was WSU goalkeeper Meghan Hackerson, who made three saves in the shutout. Drusch recorded five stops in the loss.

Leading the Phoenix in shots on the evening were freshmen Megan Braatz (Waukesha, Wis.) and Mikayla Clark (Eden Prairie, Minn.) with two apiece. Amber Kasmer led the Raiders with five shots, while Persaud fired four, all on goal.

The Phoenix is next in action Sunday afternoon at Detroit at 11 a.m. Green Bay then returns home to face in-state league rival Milwaukee next Friday in its regular season finale.
