KENT, Ohio (Nov. 16, 2009) - The Green Bay men's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and led wire-to-wire in a 77-51 victory over Rochester (Mich.) to improve to 3-1 and conclude its participation in the Hispanic College Fund Classic Monday night in Kent, Ohio. It marked the first time in school history that the Phoenix ever played four games in four days.
Freshman Seth Evans (Seneca, Ill.), making his first career start, paced the Phoenix with a career-high 19 points. He made 5 of 9 3-point tries and is now 11-for-17 from behind the arc this season. Troy Cotton (Milwaukee, Wis.) netted 11 points for his third straight double-digit outing.
The Phoenix led by as many as 21 in the first half and took an 18-point lead (47-29) into the locker room. Green Bay made seven treys in the stanza, while missing just four.
Green Bay started the second half sluggishly, allowing Rochester to creep within four at 49-45 in the first six minutes. However, the Phoenix responded with 12 unanswered points and went on to a 26-point win.
Ten Phoenix players saw at least a dozen minutes of action, including freshman Rian Pearson (Raytown, Mo.), who scored 10 in his collegiate debut after sitting out the first three games due to injury.
Green Bay got to the foul line more times in this game (30) than it did in the first three games combined (29). In addition, the Phoenix forced 21 Warriors turnovers.
Green Bay is 3-1 to open a season for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign. It opens its home slate Wednesday at 7 p.m. when Northern Michigan pays a visit to the Resch Center. It will be the fifth game in six days for the Phoenix.
