GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Troy Cotton (Milwaukee, Wis.) poured in
20 first-half points on six 3-pointers for the Green Bay Phoenix (6-2), which
cruised to a 67-41 victory over North Dakota (1-6) Sunday evening. The 41
points were the fewest allowed by the Phoenix in a decade, since UNC-Wilmington
totaled 38 on Nov. 20, 1999.
It was the 14th time under eighth-year head coach
Tod Kowalczyk that Green Bay kept an opponent under the 50-point mark. The
Phoenix held North Dakota without a field goal for the final 10 minutes of the contest
and allowed just 30.4 percent shooting overall (14 for 46).
On the two-game road trip, Green Bay forced its opponents
into 36 of 113 shooting from the field, 31.9 percent. As a result, Green Bay
improved to 3-0 in true road games for the first time since the 1991-92 season.
Cotton single-handedly outscored the Fighting Sioux in the
first half, as Green Bay led 33-18 at intermission. The Phoenix led by
double-digits for the final 26 minutes of the contest.
Cotton finished with 22, while backcourt mates Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.) and Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 19 and
10, respectively. The team connected on 10 of 23 3-point tries, marking the
third time that the squad made double-digit treys.
Green Bay dominated the backboards as well, winning the
battle 38-24.
Green Bay begins Horizon League play Thursday when it hosts
Loyola at 7 p.m. The Phoenix will also face league foe UIC at home Saturday night.
