GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay volleyball head coach Debbie Kirch has announced an addition to her incoming class for the 2009 season, as outside hitter Haley Oelke (Mosinee, Wis.) has committed to play for the Phoenix.
"Haley is just a great all-around athlete," Kirch said. "She has a strong desire to compete at the Division I level and will definitely add some power and depth to our outside hitting position."
As a senior at Mosinee High School, Oelke was her team's top hitter and most valuable player, as well as a second team All-Great Northern Conference performer. She earned first team all-conference honors her junior season, and was named her team's most improved player. As a freshman, Oelke aided her volleyball squad to the WIAA State Tournament.
In addition to excelling in volleyball, the 5-foot-11 Oelke helped Mosinee to the state basketball tournament as a freshman, and also won a regional championship in softball as a junior.
Oelke joins three other Wisconsin preps in Green Bay's 2009 freshman class. Already on the roster are Brittany Groth (Oak Creek, Wis.), Carmen Leitermann (Schofield, Wis.) and Tia Rupnik (Sheboygan, Wis.).
