HOUSTON, Texas - Green Bay (14-6) registered its seventh
non-home win of the season, the most by any team in the Horizon League, by defeating
the Houston Baptist Huskies (3-13), 77-66, in a nonconference tilt Tuesday
night at Sharp Gym.
Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored a career-high 26
points to pace the offensive attack. He poured in 15 consecutive Green Bay
points down the stretch, from the 9:56 mark of the second half until just 3:16
remained in the game. In addition, for the second consecutive game, Perine recorded
eight assists and just one turnover.
HBU, which trailed the entire game, cut the Green Bay lead
to three as late as the 7:25 mark, but Green Bay rode Perine's hot hand and
ultimately iced the game away with a flurry of offensive rebounds in the late
stages. For the contest, the Phoenix owned a 17-7 advantage in second-chance
points.
The Phoenix led by seven, 34-27, at intermission despite shooting
just 35 percent from the floor. Green Bay had jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the
early going before the Huskies made a game of it.
Troy Cotton (Milwaukee, Wis.) drained 24 points, giving the
Phoenix two 20-point scorers for the second straight outing. Rahmon Fletcher
(Kansas City, Mo.) also logged a double-figure scoring total with 13 points.
The guard trio combined for 63 of the team's 77 points (81.8 percent).
The Phoenix stayed perfect when scoring at least 70 points,
moving to 11-0. It was the team's highest offensive output since totaling 88
against Wisconsin.
Green Bay returns to Horizon League action Friday night at
Cleveland State at 7 p.m. (ET)/6 p.m. (CT).
