CHICAGO, Ill. - For the first time since the 1996-97 season, the Green Bay (16-2, 5-2) women's basketball team lost their second straight conference game. This time at the hands of UIC (8-11, 5-3) and Jasmine Bailey who scored 24 points while Jessie Miller added 20 as the Flames scored a 81-72 upset victory over No. 17 Green Bay.
"We are all really disappointed, we had a lack of pride tonight and on the defensive end it really showed; we just didn't make stops when we needed to," said Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) who scored 13.
The Horizon League setback was the second straight for the Phoenix (16-2, 5-2),
who entered the week riding a 34-game regular season winning streak and 35-consecutive regular season league winning streak.
Green Bay appeared in command after an Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) 3-pointer with 10:59 left
in the second half opened a 57-50 lead. But Illinois-Chicago replied with a
17-0 run launched by Cassie Johnson's layup with 9:46 left in regulation.
The Phoenix would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way, "right now I think we're lacking will and determination to just fight it out to the end," said Tetschlag.
Johnson had 16 points while Taylor Foulks added 10 for the Flames (8-11, 5-3).
Julie Wojta led a balanced Green Bay attack with 20 points, Celeste Hoewisch
had 19 and Kayla Tetschlag and Ritchie had 13 apiece.
Green Bay dropped a 65-63 decision to Loyola-Chicago on Thursday. The Phoenix will return to the confines of the Kress Center on Thursday to face Butler at 7 p.m. followed by Valparaison on Thursday at 2 p.m.
