GREEN BAY, Wis. - The No. 18/18 Green
Bay women's basketball team (14-0, 3-0 Horizon League) cruised past the Wright
State Raiders (4-8, 0-2) Thursday night at the Kress Center to remain one of just
five unbeaten teams in the nation. The Phoenix forced 30 Wright State turnovers
and shot better than 50 percent from the floor (26 for 51) in the rout.
Green Bay has now won 32 consecutive
regular-season games overall and 38 straight Horizon League regular-season
contests. In addition, the Phoenix improved to 42-3 all time against Wright
State.
Green Bay scored 14 seconds into
the contest and never lost the lead in the wire-to-wire win. On top 8-6, the
Phoenix used a 9-0 spurt over the next 2 ½ minutes to take a 17-6 advantage
nine minutes into the contest.
The Phoenix held a 32-17 lead at
intermission after a 3-pointer by Hannah Quilling (Eau Claire, Wis.) just prior
to the horn. Green Bay expanded its advantage to 30 (64-34) with 4:26 remaining
in the game.
Green Bay's Julie Wojta (Francis
Creek, Wis.) was a perfect 10 of 10 from the floor, including one 3-pointer, en
route to 21 points to pace all scorers. Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) totaled
14 points and a team-best six rebounds, while Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.)
also reached double figures with 10.
LaShawna Thomas topped Wright
State with 15 points.
Green Bay returns to action
Saturday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Detroit.
