CHICAGO, Ill.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (7-4-1, 3-2 HL) men's soccer team won
its third consecutive league game with a 2-1 win at UIC (4-8-0, 1-4 HL)
Saturday.
Green Bay got off to a fast start as David Bernhardsson
(Tjorn, Sweden) scored his second goal of the season off a header in the tenth
minute. Bernhardsson was assisted by Stuart Grable (Neenah, Wis.) on the goal,
giving the Phoenix the 1-0 lead.
Green Bay went into halftime with the 1-0 advantage as both
teams had four shots and one save.
Less than five minutes into the second half, Grable kicked
the ball in off a corner kick. After the ball ricocheted off AJ Konchar's
(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) initial shot, he rebounded the ball and put it in the net
to boost Green Bay's lead 2-0. The goal was Konchar's second of the season.
In the 58th minute, UIC got on the board when Derek Huffman
scored off a cross pass, cutting Green Bay's lead in half. That's as close as
the Flames would get as the Phoenix win's its third consecutive league contest
on the road.
The Phoenix outshot the Flames 6-3 in the second half and finished
with eight corner kicks while UIC didn't have any. Bernhardsson led the way for
the Phoenix with three shots with two on goal while Scott Raymonds (Brookfield,
Wis.) added two.
Green Bay will wrap up its five game road trip at Wisconsin (1-8-2,
0-1-1 Big Ten) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Phoenix will return home to host
Valparaiso (6-5-2, 1-4-0 HL) Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
