DAYTON, Ohio - Green Bay (17-10, 9-6) suffered a 67-54 defeat at Wright State (17-9, 10-5) Saturday night at the Nutter Center in a battle for second place in the Horizon League standings. The final score was the largest margin enjoyed by either team in a closely played contest.
Wright State essentially put the game out of reach with just under six minutes left on back-to-back 3-pointers from N'Gai Evans and Todd Brown that turned a 50-45 WSU lead into an 11-point advantage. Green Bay never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
The Phoenix exploded out of the gates, making four of its first five 3-pointers, and 6 of 9 field goals overall en route to a 16-7 lead four minutes into the game. The Raiders clamped down defensively, however, limiting Green Bay to just 11 points over the final 16 minutes of the half.
As a result, Green Bay trailed by one, 28-27, at intermission. Troy Cotton's (Milwaukee, Wis.) three-quarter court shot went in, but came after the horn.
Wright State outshot Green Bay 50.9 percent (27 for 53) to 42.5 percent (17 of 40). The Raiders connected on 62.5 percent of its tries after intermission.
Vaughn Duggins had a game-high 20 for the Raiders, who received 55 of their 67 points from the trio of Duggins, Evans (18) and Brown (17).
Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.) led the Phoenix with 14 points, while Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) joined him in double figures with 11.
