DAYTON, Ohio - The
Green Bay (19-3, 8-3) women's basketball team picked up a much needed road win
by beating Wright State (8-13, 4-7) 74-50 remaining in second place in the Horizon
League standings.
Green Bay played with great defensive intensity throughout
the first half holding the Raiders scoreless for over seven minutes as part of
a 14-0 run.
"It was obvious how much our defense dictates our offense
and us coming out aggressive really helped," said Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.)
who led all scorers with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
The Phoenix held Wright State to 30 percent shooting in the
first half while offensively Green Bay shot over 65 percent. Leading the charge
in the first 20 minutes of play were Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) and Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) who each had 10 points giving Green Bay the 35-16
advantage at the break.
After a bit of a slow start in the second half, Green Bay
regained its momentum building their lead to as many as 23. Wojta poured in 13
points in the half to finishing the game shooting 73 percent from the field
putting up her fourth double-double of the season and her career.
"We all feed off each other when we get a stop, our
teammates get excited for each other and that makes you just want to work
harder," said Wojta.
Eichler finished the game with a career-high 13 points while
Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) had a career high seven steals.
Green Bay will have a week off to prepare for in-state rival
Milwaukee who comes to the Kress Center next Saturday for the annual PinkZone
game which tips off at 5:00 p.m.
