KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After a 6-0 win over Brown University (8-5), the Green Bay (11-4) softball team closed out their week long competition at the Rebel Spring Games with a tough loss falling 0-1 to Columbia (4-12).
With a combined five hits between Green Bay and Columbia heading into the seventh inning, Green Bay's Sara Junion (Sevastopol, Wis.) hit a single to left field to start off the Phoenix. Junion then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from senior Katie Cooney (East Moline, Ill.) before the Phoenix would have to rely on its defense in the bottom of the inning.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Columbia hit a walk-off home run to left field off Cooney to hand Green Bay their third loss in the Spring Games.
The Phoenix will have a week off to prepare for their conference opener at Valparaiso, Ind. Saturday, Mar. 27-28 followed by a double header with in-state rival Wisconsin on Wednesday, Mar. 31.
