CHARLESTON, Ill.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's soccer team wrapped up exhibition
play Saturday with a 2-2 draw at Eastern Illinois.
Eastern Illinois scored the only goal of the first period at
21:53 when Alex Harrison scored from 15 yards out. Green Bay outshot EIU 7-6 in
the period as Tony Walls (Wauwatosa,
Wis.) led the way with three shots and one on goal through 39 minutes of play.
In the second period at 49:30, Walls scored on a penalty
kick goal to tie it up 1-1. Green Bay later boosted its lead at 73:50 when Dan Krueger (Fridley, Minn.) found David Bernhardsson (Tjorn, Sweden) on a
fast break. Bernhardsson laid the ball in the lower left corner of the net to
take the 2-1 advantage.
EIU answered at 84:18 with a shot of its own to the lower
left corner to knot it up 2-2 with less than five minutes to play.
Green Bay outshot the Panthers 6-4 in the second period.
Walls led the Phoenix with four shots while JC Banks (Milwaukee, Wis.) added three while David Prochazka (Gothenburg, Sweden) added two in the contest. Keeper
Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) played
the first 61 minutes for Green Bay before Travis
Meikle (Cottage Grove, Wis.) finished off goalkeeping duties.
The Phoenix will open its regular season Wednesday night at
7 p.m. when it hosts DePaul at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
