Phoenix Falls 1-0 at Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's soccer team (2-4-2) lost a 1-0 contest to Northern Illinois Sunday afternoon at the NIU Soccer and Track and Field Complex. It was the third straight 1-0 loss for the Phoenix and the fourth of the 2010 season.

"It's frustrating to lose another 1-0 game," Phoenix head coach Trevor Warren said. "That's kind of been the story of our season so far. We've been playing pretty well and have been playing hard but just haven't had a lot of luck. Today was the same thing - another good effort by our girls. I felt like it was a pretty even game - we had some good chances but just couldn't get a goal."

After a scoreless first half, Northern Illinois got on the scoreboard in the 54th minute when freshman forward Frances Boukidis found the net on a header following a pass from junior Kelsey Passaglia. Sophomore defender Lauren Eberts also registered an assist on the play.

The Huskies outshot the Phoenix 18-12 in the contest and had a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Green Bay freshman Anna Kouba (Lino Lakes, Minn.) led the Phoenix with three shots, including two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton, Wis.) made eight saves in the losing effort.

The Phoenix continues its road trip on Friday, Sept. 24 when it travels to Cleveland State to open Horizon League play.
