Green Bay Hosts Basketball Media at the Kress Center

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's basketball programs hosted its annual basketball media day on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming numerous members of the media who took time away from a busy week in Wisconsin Sports to join head men's basketball coach Brian Wardle and women's basketball coach Matt Bollant at the Kress Center.

Wardle and Bollant each addressed the media about their respective programs and the upcoming 2011-12 season. Women's basketball players Julie Wojta (Michicot, Wis.), Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) and Sarah Eichler and men's basketball players Jarvis Williams (Milwaukee, Wis.), Daniel Turner (McCordsville, Ind.) and Alec Brown (Winona, Minn.) also fielded questions from the media.

During the event, Jill Wunrow of Phoenix Flix interviewed Bollant, Wardle, Ritchie and Williams to talk to them about their upcoming seasons and also give viewers some of the lighter side of basketball media day. Click here to watch Inside Basketball Media Day.

Bollant's women's squad has five practices in the books as the program prepares for its 2011-12 campaign. The Phoenix welcome back Wojta, who was a second-team All-Horizon League performer a season ago, as well as senior Hannah Quilling (Eau Claire, Wis.), Ritchie and Eichler, who all started at least 16 games a season ago. Green Bay won a school-record 34 games and advanced to the Sweet 16 a season ago. Green Bay opens its season on Nov. 11 at North Dakota State.

Wardle begins his second season at the helm of the men's basketball program. He will welcome back three starters in Brown, Turner and Williams, but his roster that includes 10 freshmen and sophomores is the 15th most inexperienced in the nation. Brown, a 7-foot-1 sophomore center, averaged 10.2 points per game a season ago as a true freshman. The Phoenix opens its regular season on Nov. 11 against the University of Mary.

The squads will host Green Bay Basketball Mania on Friday night at 9 p.m. at the Kress Center. The season kickoff celebration is free and open to the public. Events will include a men's slam dunk contest, a women's three-point contest and a coaches vs. students shooting competition. More information to come this week on GreenBayPhoenix.com.

Season tickets, Pick 5 packages and single-game tickets for both programs are currently on sale with the Green Bay ticket office. For more information, please visit GreenBayPhoenix.com/tickets.
