GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay women's soccer head coach Trevor Warren has announced the addition of 11 players for the 2011 season, as Devyn Alberts (Farmington, Minn.), Chandra Eigenberger (Green Bay, Wis.), Emily Friedl (Kenosha, Wis.), Jenna Harrington (Madison, Wis.), Abby Juzwik (Madison, Wis.), Hannah Kernen (Belleville, Wis.), Alisha Maciejewski (Neenah, Wis.), Katy Pilarzyk (Madison, Wis.), Alex Ronchak (Arden Hills, Minn.), Leah Seib (Waukesha, Wis.) and Sierra Valentine (Green Bay, Wis.) are each set to join the Phoenix in the fall.

"I'm excited to announce an incoming class of 11 athletes who will provide strength and depth at every position," Warren said. "Several of the players will be geared up to help our already stingy defense and we have added a great deal to the offensive side of the team. I am confident that a number of the players will be ready to contribute right away."

Alberts was a four-year standout at Farmington High School where she was the team's most valuable player all four seasons. She ended her career by being named to the all-state team after scoring 10 goals and recording 10 assists in her senior season. She was an all-conference pick three years in a row and was named conference player of the year in 2009 and 2010. Alberts also played for the ODP State Team for three years, appearing in the ODP Nationals in Frisco, Texas. At the club level, Alberts played for the Minnesota Thunder Academy. She also found success in the classroom, as she was named to the academic all-state squad in her final two seasons.

"Devyn is a physically strong, powerful, technically gifted soccer player who consistently plays at a very high level and is a very intelligent player with the ball," Warren said. "She has the rare ability to create and score goals as a midfielder which is always a bonus. I highly expect her to have a great impact during her freshman year."

Eigenberger played at Ashwaubenon High School where she was a first-team all-conference selection in 2009 and 2010. As a freshman, she was voted her team's most valuable player, and was chosen as team captain in 2009. She was also a member of the ODP team for six seasons and played club soccer for FC Green Bay.

"Chandra is a talented local player who we have watched for several years," Warren said. "She is a very versatile player and has played as a defender and center midfielder for her high school and club teams. She is another incoming freshman who is very comfortable in possession."

Friedl, who attended Lakeview Technology Academy, was a four-year member of the ODP State Team. She played club soccer for the U-18 Eclipse East where she was an Eclipse select national team player. Her team also won the Illinois State Cup in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Academically, Friedl was an AP honor roll student who was her class president for three years.

"I coached Emma as a member of the '94 Wisconsin ODP team last year during which time she was selected for the Region II pool as one of the top 38 players in the Midwest in her age group," Warren said. "Em is another attacking player who loves to run at defenders, and is equally at home as an attacking midfielder or up front in attack. She is another incoming freshman that will be pushing for a starting position."

Harrington attended LaFollette High School in Madison, where she was a four-year varsity letterwinner. Her squad won regional championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010, with Harrington earning honorable mention all-city recognition in 2010. She played club soccer for the Madison 56ers Red.

"Jenna is a strong, physical defender and a ball-winner," Warren said. "Her ability to win headers against bigger opponents is excellent. She is brave and has impeccable timing. She is also another defender who is adept with the ball at her feet and capable of starting counter attacks. She may also have a part to play on offensive set plays."

Juzwik helped Verona Area High School to the Division 1 state championship in 2010, a year in which she was a first-team all-conference pick, as well as an honorable mention all-state selection. In three years of varsity soccer at Verona, the midfielder's teams posted an impressive 48-13-6 record. In club ball, Juzwik was a teammate of Harrington's on the Madison 56ers squad. In the classroom, Juzwik finished her career with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.85.

"Abby is a tall, playmaking center midfielder for her club and high school team," Warren said. "She is another member of the incoming freshman class who is very composed on the ball, completes passes and supports the offensive players. With her height I also expect her to be a key target for us on offensive set plays."

Kernen was a midfielder and forward for Belleville High School where she was her team's captain and most valuable player in 2010. She was named to the Capitol Conference first team, picking up the conference player of the year award. Kernen was also a member of the Madison 56ers Red squad, where she was a teammate of Harrington and Juzwik.

"Hannah Kernen is a player who is equally comfortable in an attacking role in midfield or as an out-and-out attacker," Warren said. "I have seen Hannah win games almost on her own. She is one of the most gifted players technically I will have ever coached. It's almost like the ball is attached to her feet by a string. I think she is going to be a real entertainer on the field and a crowd pleaser. I can see her scoring some goals and people watching her saying, 'how did she do that?'"

Maciejewski was a two-year defender for Neenah High School where she helped her squad to conference and sectional championships, earning a berth to state. In club soccer, Maciejewski played for the Paper Valley Youth Soccer Club. In the classroom, she holds a 3.9 GPA.

Maciejewski is a strong, quick, ball-winning fullback," Warren said. "She has the ability to win the one-on-one defensive battles and dominate her opponent physically. She is very tenacious and will put her body in where it hurts to block shots. Alisha also has the ability to join in the attack as an overlapping fullback and put crosses into dangerous areas in front of the opponent's goal."

Pilarzyk, a goalkeeper, played high school soccer at Madison Memorial where she was named to the all-Big Eight Conference first team, the Madison all-city first team and the all-state first team in 2010. She was her team's captain and MVP in 2010, leading her squad to a conference title. Over her career, Pilarzyk recorded 37 shutouts with a .51 goals-against average. She is also a five-year state team member and played for the MYSC Rush club team.

"Katy has the size, athletic ability and quickness to become a very accomplished keeper at the Division I level," Warren said. "Furthermore, she has a great mentality and desire to work hard to become the best keeper she can be. She is also a joy to be around and I expect her to be pushing our two upperclassmen keepers for playing time."

Goalkeeper coach Grant Williams is also excited about the signing of Pilarzyk.            

"Katy is a fantastic goalkeeper," Williams said. "She possesses great athletic ability that along with her outgoing fearless personality, will give her an opportunity to really become an outstanding collegiate goalkeeper. I'm excited to get a chance to work with her."

In the classroom, Pilarzyk holds a 3.85 GPA and was a National Honors Society member, French Honors Society member and a student government representative.

Ronchak was a three-year forward for Mounds View High School. She played club soccer for the U-18 Premiere Member Minnesota Thunder. Her team won the Minnesota Section 5AA championship and placed third in the 2010 state tournament.

"Alex is a very strong and powerful athlete at 5-foot-11," Warren said. "She will be a handful for any opponent. She has excellent speed with and without the ball. I think she will develop into a force to be reckoned with in the league. The sky is the limit for Alex."

Seib was a four-year letterwinner for Waukesha West High School where she was a starting forward on her 2009 state finalist team and the starting center back on the 2010 state tournament squad. In 2010, she was selected to the all-state team and was named conference player of the year for the Classic Eight.

"Leah is a center back who is very confident with the ball at her feet and very comfortable bringing the ball out of the defense," Warren said. "She could also play in midfield where she has played for her club and high school. Leah has a great personality, is very much a student of the game and I have very high expectations for her."

Valentine attended Preble High School in Green Bay where she won regional championships as a freshman and sophomore. She was named varsity newcomer of the year as a freshman and was also a first-team all-conference pick as a junior. She was also a member of the Green Bay Lightning where she was a two-year captain.

"Sierra Valentine is another local player that I have watched play for several years at Preble High School," Warren said. "Sierra is an out-and-out attacker who has great instincts for the position and is very passionate about playing and learning."

Four of the incoming players - Friedl, Harrington, Pilarzyk and Seib - played for Warren in the Wisconsin ODP team in 2010.

The 11 newcomers join a Phoenix squad that was one of the nation's best defensive teams in 2010. Green Bay gave up just 15 goals in 16 contests a year ago, and was ranked first in the nation in save percentage in the month of September. The Phoenix ended the season with a 3-9-4 record (1-5-2 Horizon League).
