ORLANDO, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (9-7) softball team extended its
winning streak to six games after picking up a pair of wins for the
third-consecutive day at the Rebel Spring Games. The Phoenix beat St. Peter's
4-1 in its first matchup of the day and came from behind to capture a 5-2 win
over Hartford.
Game 1 - Green Bay 4, St. Peter's 1
The
Phoenix scored one run in the first inning of play, two in the third and one in
the fifth while finishing with four runs off 10 hits, securing the 4-1 win.
Sara
Junion (Egg Harbor, Wis.) went 2-for-4 from behind the plate with two RBIs and
one double while freshman Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) went 2-for-2,
including a double.
Green
Bay stranded seven runners on base as Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) pitched
four innings to capture the win for the Phoenix.
Game 2 - Green Bay 5, Hartford 2
Green
Bay scored in the first inning to take the early lead before Hartford (1-8)
answered in the bottom of the inning with a run of its own to knot it 1-1.
The
Hawks took the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning before the Phoenix
tallied four runs in the fourth, securing the 5-2 win.
Jessica
Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.) led the Phoenix from the plate going 2-for-3 with three
RBIs, including a double while Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) and Alli
Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.) were both 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Senior
Katie Cooney (East Moline, Ill.) was the winning pitcher for the Phoenix,
allowing only three hits from the mound.
Green
Bay will continue play in the Rebel Spring Games facing Bucknell Friday at 11
a.m. followed by Colgate at 1 p.m.
