GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Cold, windy conditions could not stop the Green Bay (15-12) softball team from picking up both wins against South Dakota State (8-30) in its doubleheader home opener Thursday at Ben Garot Field.

Game 1 - Green Bay 2, South Dakota State 1 - South Dakota State got on the board first in the top of the second inning with two outs and a runner on second base when the Jackrabbits hit an RBI single to right field.

Green Bay answered in the third with Amanda Pozolinski (Appleton, Wis.) on second and Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) pinch running for Shannon Butts (Greenfield, Wis.) on third when Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) hit an RBI single to right field to give the Phoenix the 2-1 lead for good.

Sophomore Tieraney Planasch (Juneau, Wis.) pitched her second complete game of the season, striking out two batters while improving to 4-4 in the season. The Phoenix scored two runs on three hits while stranding seven runners on base in the win.

Game 2 - Green Bay 6, South Dakota State 1 - The Jackrabbits put a run on the board in the first inning in game two of the doubleheader before the Phoenix scored five runs in the second and added one in the third, capturing the 6-1 win.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the second, Sara Junion (Egg Harbor, Wis.) was hit by a pitch, scoring Paige Newtols (Green Bay, Wis.) to tie the game 1-1. Omahen followed with a two-run RBI scoring Reinke and Pozolinski while Junion scored on an error by the catcher to give the Phoenix the 4-1 lead. Sophomore Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Omahen and boosting the lead to 5-1. Green Bay scored five runs off four hits and one error while stranding three runners.

The Phoenix tacked on its final run of the game in the bottom of the third with two outs. Jessica Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.) got on base with a walk before stealing second base. Junion singled to center field, scoring Hrncar and giving Green Bay the 6-1 win.

Freshman Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) picked up her second collegiate win, facing 15 batters throughout four innings of play.

Green Bay will get back to Horizon League play Saturday, April 16 as it travels to Butler (22-15, 8-3 HL) for a three-game series with the Bulldogs.
