GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay softball recruit Lauren Danner (Kaukauna, Wis.) has been named
the Gatorade state softball Player of the Year. Danner is the third Gatorade
Softball Player of the Year to be chosen from Kaukauna High School.
Danner led Kaukauna to an impressive 24-1 record during her
senior campaign and an appearance in the WIAA Division I sectional final game
where she struck out 10 batters. The right-handed pitcher also led the
Galloping Ghosts to a No. 5 ranking in the USA
Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association High School Top 25
Poll.
In the classroom, Danner has maintained a 3.48 GPA and
donates her time locally with the elderly and as a youth softball instructor.
She has also volunteered on behalf of the Salvation Army.
The award
recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also academic
achievement and outstanding character both on and off the field. In its 26th
year, the Gatorade Player of the Year program recognized outstanding
student-athletes from the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states. The
selection process is conducted by ESPN RISE and the Gatorade high school sports
leadership team.
