GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The future continues to look bright for the Green Bay women's basketball team as redshirt freshman Megan Lukan (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) is one of 12 players from Canada chosen to play on the women's junior national team.

"We're extremely proud of Megan and looking forward to seeing how she represents her country," said Green Bay women's basketball head coach Matt Bollant. "She has made such tremendous strides here at Green Bay and used her redshirt year well."

Lukan redshirted her freshman season with the Phoenix and will have four years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2011-12 season.

The Barrie, Ontario native competed with 18 other players for a spot on the 12-person national team before being selected. With previous experience playing on the junior national squad last season, this year Lukan and her teammates will compete in the FIBA under-19 world championship held July 21-31 in Chile.

In an interview with The Barrie Examiner, Lukan credited her teammates at Green Bay for helping her achieve this opportunity of a lifetime.

"Practicing against them every day helped my game," Lukan said. "I've always believed practice is where you get better as a player and competing against the great competition at practice really helped me make the team."
