ORLANDO, Fla.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (5-8) softball team improved to 4-0 in the Rebel Spring
Games with a pair of wins Wednesday Mar. 14 in Orlando, Fla. The Phoenix beat
St. Peter's 8-3 in its opening contest of the day before shutting out Fairfield
6-0.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second
against St. Peter's, Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) hit a grand slam to
boost the Phoenix lead to 6-0.
St. Peter's added three runs in the top of the sixth inning to
cut Green Bay's lead in half (6-3). The Phoenix secured the win in the bottom
of the inning after Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) led off with a double
down the right field line. Shannon Butts (Greenfield, Wis.) reached base on a
fielder's choice, scoring Peerenboom for the 7-3 lead. Green Bay finished the
inning scoring two runs on two hits while stranding two runners on base.
Ashely Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) picked up the win for the
Phoenix, pitching five innings while striking out three batters.
The Phoenix carried its momentum to a 6-0 shutout win over
Fairfield, marking the second shutout in four games for Green Bay.
Freshman Lauren Danner (Kaukauna, Wis.) had a great showing
for the Phoenix on the mound as she threw a one-hitter.
Green Bay will have six more games in Rebel Spring
play which wraps up Mar. 17.
