HORIZON
LEAGUE QUARTERFINAL, (1) Green Bay 77, (9) Valparaiso 53 - Sometimes the player with the best stat line in
the box score at the end of the game is not always the one that sparks the win.
There's no question Julie Wojta (Francis Creek,
Wis.) carried No. 10/10 Green Bay (28-1, 17-1 HL) in the first half of its
77-53 Horizon League Championship quarterfinal win over No. 9 seed Valparaiso
(10-21, 5-13 HL) with her 15 points, five rebounds, and five steals in 17
minutes of play.

But this season's first Postseason Props go to
senior Hannah Quilling (Eau Claire, Wis.) for her gutsy performance, playing
through a rib injury while sparking Green Bay's second half run to put the game
out of reach for the Crusaders.
"She's the toughest player I've ever played
alongside, she just gives everyone on the court that fight and inspiration,"
said Wojta who had a team-high 17 points. "She's never going to give up no
matter how much pain she's going through, she won't let it be known."
With 13:34 to play in the contest, Valpo cut the
Phoenix lead to nine (44-35) following a layup from Gina Lange. In a span of 12
seconds, Quilling had two assists and a steal which included the play of the
game; an alley-oop layup to Wojta. Quilling's aggressiveness sparked a 15-0 run
for the Phoenix, forcing the Crusaders to call time out with 12:59 remaining.
During the time out, Quilling walked to the
Phoenix bench grimacing in pain with tear-filled eyes as she was substituted
out of the contest for what appeared to be the remainder of the game.
"I thought Hannah really gave us a spark
tonight, how can you not go out and fight for her," said reigning Horizon
League Coach of the Year Matt Bollant. "She continually goes out and fights and
battles and if you're a teammate of Hannah's you have to want to be like her."
Quilling checked back into the contest with 9:46
to play and dished out one assist before being replaced with 7:31 on the clock.
Quilling finished the game leading all players with four assists in 16 minutes
of play.
"It's my senior year and if I don't give it
everything I have, I've learned nothing from this program," said Quilling. "A
little pain is not enough to knock me down and I think that's the mindset I have
to have in this situation and I would ask the same of my teammates if they were
in the same situation."
With 11:39 to play in the first half, Quilling
banked in her lone three of the contest to tie the contest 10-10, sparking a
13-0 run by the Phoenix that spanned over three minutes.
"It's frustrating not being healthy but it's not
something I can just sit and dwell on," Quilling said. "When I'm in the game,
it's moving so fast that I don't really have a lot of time to think of how much
pain I may or may not be in. Once you're between the lines, it's basketball."
In an interview after the game, Quilling said
she is not playing any different than she normally would, injured or not.
"If I'm back, I'm back 100 percent," said
Quilling.
