MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
softball (13-14) team took a break from Horizon League play as it split its
double header against Big Ten opponent Minnesota (22-14) Wednesday, April 11 at
JSC Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. 
After being shut out 7-0, with just
three hits in game one of its double header, Green Bay scored three runs in the
opening inning of its second game for the eventual 5-2 win.
GAME 1 - GREEN BAY 0, MINNESOTA
7 - The Gophers got on the board first in
the bottom of the second inning before scoring two runs in the third, fourth
and fifth innings for the 7-0 win. 
Green Bay stranded runners on base in
both the first and second inning before registering its first hit of the
contest with a single to center field from Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.)
in the third inning of play. 
The Phoenix registered two hits and
stranded two runners on base in the seventh inning.
GAME 2 - GREEN BAY 5, MINNESOTA 2
- With one out and two runners on base in
the first inning Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) hit a three-run homer to left
field, giving Green Bay the early 3-0 lead. The home run was Reinke's second of the season.
With two outs in the bottom of the
second, Minnesota put its first run on the board. Green Bay answered in the top
of the third when Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.) led off the inning with a home
run to right field for the 4-1 advantage. The Phoenix finished the inning with
one run, two hits, one error, while stranding two runners on base.
Reinke continued her solid performance
from the plate, leading off the fifth inning with a triple to right center
field. Stacey Butts (Greenfield, Wis.) followed with an RBI single to left
field, scoring Reinke for the 5-1 lead. The Phoenix finished the inning with
one run on three hits and two runners left on base.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Minnesota
hit a solo home run to left field, before Green Bay's defense stopped the Gophers'
rally for the 5-2 win.
Reinke led the Phoenix going 4-for-4
from the plate with 3 RBIs while Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) pitched her
fourth complete game of the season, striking out five batters. The junior
pitcher improves to 4-5 on the season.
Green Bay plays its final nonconference
double header of the season Thursday, April 12, as it travels to North Dakota
with first pitch at 12:00 p.m. The Phoenix returns to Horizon League play
Saturday, April 14 as it hosts Butler in a double header in its home opener at
Ben Garot Field at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
