GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (0-1-0) women's soccer team will face a tough
test this weekend on its first trip to Florida in over two decades. The Phoenix
will take on Atlantic Sun powerhouse Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Atlantic at
the sixth annual Embassy Suites Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
Green
Bay will face its biggest challenge of its young season Friday, when it takes
on tournament host Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. The Eagles (1-1-0) won the 2011
Atlantic Sun Tournament, have won back-to-back Atlantic Sun regular season
titles and are predicted to win a third-straight title in 2012. After a day off
Saturday, the Phoenix will return to action against Florida Atlantic (0-1-0) at
9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
In
the first regular season game last Friday, the Phoenix held South Dakota State
scoreless for 82 minutes before allowing two late goals to give the Jackrabbits
a 2-0 win. Green Bay outshot South Dakota State 8-7 in the contest and came
close to scoring on more than one occasion.
Green
Bay has never played in a regular season tournament under head coach Trevor
Warren. The last tournament the Phoenix appeared in was the 2006 University
of Nevada Tournament in Reno, Nev.
