FORT MYERS, Fla.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Freshman Sydney Born (Edina, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday
night in the Embassy Suites Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., but Green Bay (0-3)
dropped its final game of the tournament 2-1 to Florida Atlantic (1-2) in
non-conference women's soccer action.
Unlike in Friday night's 2-1 loss when Green Bay found
the net first against tournament host Florida Gulf Coast, the Phoenix fell
behind early on Saturday when Ellie Smith scored a goal in the 27th minute. The
Owls got an insurance goal in the 63rd minute from Claire Emslie to take a 2-0
lead in the second half.
Born put the Phoenix on the board with her first
collegiate goal in the 87th minute, finding the back of the net with a shot past
FAU keeper Ashley Lantes.
Sophomore keeper Katy Pilarzyk (Madison, Wis.) made four saves in goal for the Phoenix.
Senior Megan Braatz (Waukesha, Wis.) scored the Phoenix goal on Friday night and was named to the Embassy Suites Classic All-Tournament Team.
Green Bay will head to another tournament next
weekend, playing Northern Iowa and UM-Kansas City at the SIU Edwardsville
Tournament. The Phoenix will play UNI at 5 p.m. on Friday and UMKC on Sunday at
12 p.m.
