GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay women's cross country
runner Sarah Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.) has earned female Horizon League Runner of
the Week Honors handed out by the League office Monday. It is the first honor
for Mauel in her young collegiate career and the second consecutive season a
cross country runner has received the award.
Mauel led the Phoenix to an
impressive third place team finish at the Midwest Collegiate Open Sept. 8 at
UW-Parkside. The freshman finished the second race of her collegiate career
with a time of 18:24.7, finishing third place overall to pace the Phoenix.
As a team, Green Bay scored 78 points
while host UW-Parkside was second with 77 points with Northern Michigan topping
the field with 47 points. Also competing in the meet was in-state and Horizon
League rival UW-Milwaukee who ran to a sixth place team finish with the
Panthers top finisher crossing the line in 16th place.
Mauel earned the honor after her
older sister Lauren picked up the award last season, one year ago this week
(Sept. 12).
For the second consecutive week both
the men's and women's cross country teams will stay in-state for competition as
the Phoenix travels to Mequon for the Falcon Invite Saturday, Sept. 15. The men's
8K race will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the women's 6K race at 12 p.m.
