GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After a lengthy road trip to Wright StateFriday, the Green Bay (3-7-1,
0-1-1 HL) women's soccer team had a quick turnaround before falling 3-0 to
Indiana State (5-7-1) Sunday, Sept. 30 at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The loss was
the second consecutive for the Phoenix on its home field.
"I felt we were the better team in
the first half, controlling most of the possessions, we just couldn't complete
our goal chances," said head coach Trevor Warren. "It's a concern for me and
our team."
Indiana State scored its first goal
10 minutes into the contest when Natalie Vaught passed ahead to Aubrie
Musselman on the left side of the box. Musselman took the shot, hitting the
post before bouncing into the net for the 1-0 advantage.
Despite trailing 1-0 at the half,
Green Bay outshot Indiana State 6-5 and 1-3 on corner kicks. Junior Ahna Logan
(Roseville, Minn.) and sophomore Hannah Kernen (Belleville, Wis.) each led the
Phoenix with two shots.
Two minutes into the second half,
Indiana State's Marisa Windisch found Sydney Lovelace in the box. Lovelace
caught Green Bay keeper Katy Pilarzyk (Madison, Wis.) off guard for the 2-0
cushion.
Green Bay was outshot 9-5 and 2-0 on
corner kicks in the second half. The Sycamores header shot by Taylor Reed in
the 76th minute secured the 3-0 win for Indiana State.
Senior Megan Braatz (Waukesha, Wis.)
Renee Therrien, Kernen and Logan all finished with two shots each to lead the
Phoenix while Jenna Harrington (Madison, Wis.), Chanel Aries (Calgary, Alberta)
and Chandra Eigenberger each added one.
Green Bay sophomore goalkeeper Katy Pilarzyk
(Madison, Wis.) made two saves in 64 minutes of play while freshman Nastacia
Behle (St. Paul, Mo.) made one save in 25 minutes in the net.
NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE: Green Bay returns to Horizon
League play Wednesday, Oct. 3 when it travels to Cleveland State (3-8-0, 0-2-0
HL). The Phoenix returns to the confines of Aldo Santaga Stadium Saturday, Oct.
6 when it hosts Youngstown State (6-4-0, 1-0-0 HL) at 1 p.m., kicking off a
three-game homestand.
