DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay swimming and diving teams opened their 2013-14 seasons on Thursday evening, taking on Wright State in a Horizon League dual meet at the WSU Natatorium. The Phoenix won 10 of the meet's 13 events on the women's side to cruise to 168-73 victory, while the host Raiders claimed the men's competition 161-82.

Senior sprinter Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) was a part of three wins for the Green Bay women, taking both the 50-yard (24.53) and 100-yard freestyle (54.41) races before anchoring the winning 400 free relay team (3:36.39) in the meet's final event. Joining Wolf on the winning relay squad were freshmen Natalie Neuwirth (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Claire Walters (Northfield, Minn.), and sophomore Racheal Weiland (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).

Neuwirth was also an individual winner in her first collegiate meet, racing to a victory in the 200 free (1:55.91). Three other freshmen women recorded wins for the Phoenix on Thursday, as Haley Lucas (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) took the 100 butterfly (58.60), Alyssa Udean (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) won the 500 free and Crystal Franzwa (Winona, Minn.) claimed the 1-meter diving event.

Senior Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) had a strong day on the boards, winning the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 255.90. She also finished a close runner-up to Franzwa on the low board with a total of 234.52.

Sisters Anna Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) and Emily Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) were responsible for Green Bay's other two wins in the season opener. Anna Gomez got things started with a victory in the 1000 free (10:34.45) in the first individual race of the year, and Emily Gomez took home a win in the 100 backstroke (1:00.41).

On the men's side, sophomore diver Tanner Nordlund (Rice, Minn.) was a two-time winner for the Phoenix, taking the 1-meter (268.27) and 3-meter (269.92) boards.

The 2013 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year Willem Poelmans (Hasselt, Belgium) got his sophomore season started with a win in the 500 free, touching in first at 4:44.93. Green Bay's fourth and final win of the evening came from senior Robert Miner (Madison, Wis.), who took the 100 butterfly in 52.31.

Both Phoenix squads return to action on Friday, taking on Youngstown State at 4 p.m. in Youngstown, Ohio. The meet will be streamed live on the Horizon League Network.
