Green Bay Claims Phoenix 1-2-3 Meet Titles

– The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving squads both wrapped up victories on Saturday at the three-team Phoenix 1-2-3 meet at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. The two-day, championship-style meet featured a team from Division I (Green Bay), Division II (St. Cloud State) and Division III (UW-Whitewater).

The Phoenix women had a first-place finisher in 17 of the 20 events over the two days, racking up 905 points in a convincing win. The men's team won just six events, but used great depth, including 28 second and third place finishes, to outlast St. Cloud State (762) with a score of 842.

Senior Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) led the way for the Phoenix women, picking up seven total victories over the two days. Individually, she claimed the 50 free (23.98), 100 free (53.31) and 200 free (1:56.19), and was also a member of four winning relay teams (200 free, 200 medley, 800 free, 400 free).

Freshman Natalie Neuwirth (Stevens Point, Wis.) was involved in six total wins, joining Wolf on the 800 and 400 free relays, swimming on the 400 medley relay and picking up individual wins in the 200 IM (2:10.07), 400 IM (4:42.55) and 200 backstroke (2:08.28).

Sophomore Anna Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) and freshman Haley Lucas (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) both won two individual events for the Green Bay women. Gomez took the 500 free in 5:05.44 and the 1650 free in 17:33.95, while Lucas took both the 100 (58.35) and 200 (2:08.44) butterfly races.

Sophomore Willem Poelmans (Hasselt, Belgium) was part of four wins for the Phoenix men, winning the 200 IM (1:55.19) and 400 IM (4:05.26), and also swimming on the victorious 400 medley and 800 free relays. Senior Robert Miner (Madison, Wis.) was responsible for Green Bay's third individual win in the pool, taking the 100 fly in 51.67.  

Green Bay had an exceptional Saturday on the diving boards, picking up a trio of wins and achieving multiple personal best scores.

On the women's side, the Phoenix took the top three spots on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Freshman Crystal Franzwa (Winona, Minn.) got things started with a win on the low board with a score of 249.25, while senior Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) claimed the 3-meter title with a score of 251.80.

Sophomore Tanner Nordlund (Rice, Minn.) was the winner in the 3-meter competition on the men's side, posting a career-best score of 282.50.

Green Bay is back at the Dorschel Natatorium this week, hosting South Dakota in a dual meet on Thursday at 6 p.m.
