GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Pulling a defender in for a set piece in the first half, Justy Linton (Winnipeg, Manitoba) netted her first collegiate goal to propel the Green Bay women's soccer team over Northern Illinois, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Santaga Stadium.

The win kept the Phoenix perfect at home this season (3-0) and improved them to 3-2-3 overall. NIU dropped to 2-4-0.

Taking control of the match from the onset, Green Bay threatened 1:30 into the match when a Chandra Eigenberger (Green Bay, Wis.) cross found the head of Heidi Hartmann (Plymouth, Minn.) however the shot fell right into the hands of Huskies keeper Amy Carr.

Hartmann struck again in the 27th minute, but the Phoenix finally found the net in the 43rd minute on a corner kick. Eigenberger took the kick and Katie Schulz (Plymouth, Minn.) bounced it off her body before Linton found the back of the net for a rare double assist and a 1-0 lead.

The Phoenix entered the break with the lead and a 6-1 advantage in shots.

Limiting the Huskies to long range attempts in the second half, Green Bay maintained its attack with two great scoring opportunities in the 58th and 60th minutes. On another set piece, this time off a free kick, Ahna Logan (Roseville, Minn.) sent a shot directly to the NIU keeper. In the 60th minute Hartmann was taken down just outside the box, resulting in a free kick. Hekla Palmadottir (Akranes, Iceland) bent a shot around the NIU defensive wall, but it sailed just wide.

For the match, Green Bay outshot Northern Illinois, 11-4, while corner kicks were even at three. Katy Pilarzyk (Madison, Wis.) and Nastacia Behle (St. Paul, Mo.) split time in net to earn the shutout.

Green Bay returns to the pitch on Wednesday, traveling to face Wisconsin at 7 p.m. in Madison.
