DES MOINES, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
– An equalizer from Heidi Hartmann (Plymouth, Minn.) in the 80th minute aided the Green Bay women's soccer team as it drew even with Drake, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon at Cownie Complex in Des Moines.

The tie put Green Bay's record at 2-2-2, while Drake moved to 0-4-2.

A flurry of offensive attacks started the match for Green Bay. Hannah Kernen (Belleville, Wis.) put a shot on goal that was blocked out over the endline, resulting in a corner kick taken by Hekla Palmadottir (Akranes, Iceland). Traffic in the goal box gave Ahna Logan (Roseville, Minn.) an attempt on goal, but the ball sailed high.

After a span of five minutes that saw Drake's Ashlie Stokes put two shots on goal, including one that hit the post, the Phoenix offense stepped up again. In the 17th minute, Emily Friedl  (Kenosha, Wis.) took a shot that was saved by DU's Andrea Swanson to create another set piece. Chandra Eigenberger (Green Bay, Wis.) took the corner kick and Sydney Born (Edina, Minn.) sent the ball towards an open net, but the Drake defense stepped up and made a team save to keep the scoreboard empty.

It was short lived however, as the Bulldogs struck in the 19th minute. Rebecca Rodgers drew into a one-on-one situation with Phoenix keeper Katy Plilarzyk (Madison, Wis.) and capitalized, drawing Pilarzyk off her line before sending the ball to the lower corner for a 1-0 advantage.

The score remained in favor of the hosts at 1-0 going into the half, despite the Phoenix leading in both shots, 10-8, and corner kicks, 5-1.

It was a battle in the second half but the Green Bay offense kept growing the pressure, creating several opportunities to find the back of the net. Those chances finally came to a culmination in the 80th minute. An Eigenberger corner kick found the head of Hartmann, who sent it home to knot the score at 1-1.

Both squads saw several opportunities to try and score in the overtime sessions but were unable to make the most of them, ending in a 1-1 draw after 110:00 of play.

On the final scoresheet, Green Bay held advantages in shots, 21-17, and corner kicks, 9-1. Pilarzyk played the entire match, making six saves, while Kernen had a team-best five shots.

The Phoenix continues its three-game road trip on Wednesday, facing DePaul in Chicago at 4 p.m.
