Own Goal Dooms Green Bay in 1-0 Loss to Wright State

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After letting in an own goal in the 73rd minute, the Green Bay men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Wright State on Saturday night at Santaga Stadium in Horizon League action. The Phoenix falls to 3-8-3, 0-4-1 Horizon League and Wright State moves to 8-5-1 and 3-3-0 in conference.

An evenly played match for 72 minutes changed for the worst for the host Phoenix, when a ball played through the defense was deflected off the foot of a Green Bay defender trying to clear the ball, but instead went into the back of the net. It would prove to be the only goal of the match, as both teams combined to put only seven shots on goal.

The Phoenix had limited opportunities in the first half, but seemed to play with a sense of urgency in the second. As has been the case for a couple of weeks now though, Green Bay was again kept off the scoreboard.

Green Bay continues to struggle offensively, as the team has now been shutout in five straight contests.

The Phoenix will step out of conference play next Tuesday (Oct. 21), when it travels to Eastern Illinois. Kick off is set for 3 p.m. in Charleston, Ill.
