GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Ending the season on a high and positive note, the Green Bay men's soccer team defeated Cleveland State 2-1 on Friday night at Krenzler Field. The Phoenix ends the season with a record of 6-9-3 and 2-5-1 in Horizon League play after winning three of its final four games.
Freshman Sydney McClain scored twice for the Phoenix, giving the team seven goals in its final four games. Green Bay endured a stretch of five-straight defeats prior, being shutout in all five. The team concluded its season playing the role of spoiler, handing two Horizon League Tournament teams a loss in the process.
McClain scored both of his goals in the first half, giving Green Bay a 2-0 lead before Cleveland State (6-11-0, 4-4-0 HL) cut the deficit in half in the 34th minute. The Phoenix defense would stand strong the remainder of the game, picking up a huge road victory to wrap up 2014.
Green Bay outshot the Vikings 7-5 on goal in the game and 12-8 overall. Audi Jepson, Tyler Swanner and Jeremy Nji each picked up an assist in the contest. Swanner assisted on McClain's first goal, while Jepson and Nji assisted on his second.
The senior class went out in style, as AJ Patterson, Billy Donovan, Defrim Ramushevski and Lawrence Talery finished their careers as winners in three of four games.
