GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay defense looked strong on Saturday night at Aldo Santaga Stadium, as the team worked to a 0-0 draw with the visiting Detroit Titans (3-2-7, 0-0-4). Green Bay (3-5-3, 1-1-2) recorded its second-straight shutout in league play and the third of the season when playing within the confines of Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Green Bay did an excellent job of controlling play in its second home appearance following a string of six-straight road contests, allowing only a single shot on-goal in the first 45 minutes of play. Green Bay, however, managed to get things rolling offensively and recorded three-straight SOG in the in the 43rd minute of the opening period from Cheenuj Shong, Audi Jepson and Trey Benhart.
Green Bay mirrored its first half of play in the closing periods and recorded another three shots on-goal, two of which came from the feet of Shong, with the senior forward nearly turning in the game-winning goal in the 94th minute after breaking through the backline and charging the keeper in hopes of turning in the golden goal. However, Detroit's keeper managed to dive at Shong's feet and knock the ball out of harm's way, turning away one of Green Bay's best scoring opportunities.
Goalkeeper Kyle Ihn returned to the net for Green Bay and recorded his second shutout of the season for the Phoenix, collecting six saves on the night, including one that saw Ihn lay out to his right on a free kick to knock away what seemed destined to be a go-ahead goal for the Titans.
Shong led the Phoenix attack on the evening and recorded three shots in the contest, placing all three of his attempts on-goal. William Nordenstrom¸ Jepson and Benhart each recorded one shot on-goal for Green Bay. The Phoenix had five members log shots on the evening.
Detroit held an advantage in shots taken with 18 compared to Green Bay's 13, but both teams managed to place six on the mark.
Green Bay returns to action this Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it travels south to Milwaukee, Wis., for a matchup with Milwaukee in hopes of retaining the Chancellor's cup.
