HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's soccer team concluded its season at Northern Kentucky this evening, falling to the Norse 2-1 in regulation. One high note that the Phoenix ended its season with is the senior forward Heidi Hartmann netted her seventh goal of the season, 23rd in her career, and moved into a tie for fifth place on the all-time goals list.
The first half saw no production from either team in the form of goals, but did see a strong showing from the Green Bay (3-14, 1-8) offense in terms of shot production. The Phoenix outshot the league-leading Northern Kentucky (10-5-1, 6-2-1) offense 10-7 in the first 45 minutes of competitive action.
In the second half, Northern Kentucky put its high-powered offense on display and found the back of the net twice in the first 25 minutes of the half, with goals ranging from 53:35 to 62:20.
Five minutes after NKU's second goal, Hartmann and the Phoenix made their presence known and responded to the two-goal deficit, as Hartmann fired a shot at the Norse goal that deflected off a Northern Kentucky defender and into the net, bringing the Phoenix within one strike with a little more than 20 minutes to play.
Green Bay searched for the equalizer as time ticked away but was unable to collect the game-tying goal, falling 2-1 to Northern Kentucky to end the season.
Hartmann led the offense with six shots and placed one on goal. Alex Zeller also played a strong role in the Phoenix offense and logged five shots on the night. Senior Devan Schultz tallied two shots and placed one on-goal in her final match as a Phoenix.
Seniors Hartmann, Schultz, Sydney Born, Justy Linton and Nastacia Behle suited up for the final 90 minutes of their respective Phoenix careers at NKU Soccer Complex this evening.
