VALPARAISO, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team took the field against Valparaiso for its season finale this evening, falling to the Crusaders 3-0 at Brown Field.
The Phoenix (5-10-3, 2-5-2) fell behind early in the contest after letting up a pair of goals in the 11th and 13th minute. Valpo's first goal came from the foot of Ramone Howell from 20 yards outs and the second came on a penalty kick in the 13th minute from Jordan Aidoud.
Valparaiso (7-6-5, 3-3-3) added a third goal from Thomas Suleiman in the 36th minute to head into halftime holding a 3-0 lead over Green Bay. The Phoenix made attempts to rally in the closing half but was unable to find the back of the Crusaders' net, falling 3-0 in the season finale to the Crusaders.
Valparaiso won the battle in shots taken 16-12 and shots on-goal 8-6. Ten of Green Bay's 12 shots came in the closing half of play in an effort to claw its way back into the match.
Senior Cheenuj Shong led the Phoenix attack at Brown Field and finished with five shots in the match, three of which he placed on the Valparaiso goal.
Green Bay returns 20 of its 25 players to the roster next season. Seniors that will be moving on now that Green Bay has played its final match of the season are: Cheenuj Shong, Dani Alvardao, Jordan Dover, Nathan Kelsey and Ricardo Pinto.
