GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay head volleyball coach Sean Burdette today announced the addition of freshman Libby Gill as the final member of the 2015 roster, preceding the team's intrasquad scrimmage this Saturday.
The 6-foot outside hitter from Menasha completed her prep career at Xavier High School in Appleton, where she was named the unanimous Eastern Valley Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference selection after recording 377 kills, 19 blocks, 175 digs and 70 aces last season.
“Libby brings another level of athleticism to our gym and adds depth to our outside hitting corps,” said Burdette. “She has a very high ceiling, natural instincts for the game and a knack for making plays. I am excited to see her growth on the court as she works on her skills and gets stronger in the weight room.”
Gill was an Honorable Mention selection to the WVCA All-State team in 2014 following the Hawks sectional semifinal appearance, and twice named Xavier's offensive player of the year in her career, as a freshman and again as a senior.
Off the court, she was recognized as the school's artist of the year in 2014-15 and received the Optimist Award before graduation.
Gill becomes the seventh newcomer to the Phoenix roster this season, which now stands at 16.
Green Bay will kick-off its 2015 season schedule at the Rocket Invitational in Toledo, Ohio, next Friday, August 28, against Portland at noon. The Phoenix will then play a 7 p.m. match later that evening against host Toledo.
