By: Stephen Wagner

BROOKINGS, S.D. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)The Green Bay women's soccer team wrapped up its weekend road trip this afternoon in Brookings, S.D., against South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits (1-1-0) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before senior Heidi Hartmann (Plymouth, Minn.) cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 28th minute, but the Phoenix (0-2-0) was unable to fully diminish South Dakota State's lead, falling 2-1 to end the first weekend of regular season play.

The Jackrabbits pressed the attack early in the contest, scoring the first goal of the match in the 15th minute to lead things in the early goings. Less than 10 minutes after South Dakota State found back of the net for the first time in the afternoon, SDSU's Nicole Hatcher added to the Jackrabbits' tally after striking in the 25th minute of play.

Following the two South Dakota State goals, Green Bay went on the offensive, recording the last shot of the half from either team and turning in Green Bay's first goal of the season, courtesy Hartmann in the 28th minute.

The second half consisted of more offensive attacks from both teams compared to the first, as Green Bay fired seven of its 10 attempts and South Dakota State took 10 of its 12 in the final 45 minutes of regulation. However, stellar play from the goalkeepers preserved the 2-1 result.

Green Bay's senior keeper Nastacia Behle (St. Paul, Mo.) finished with six saves in the match, all of which came in the second half of play. Hartmann finished the day with six shots, placing four of them on goal and picking up Green Bay's first goal of the season. Sophomores Alex Zeller (Dundee, Ill.) and Maggie Fuller (Waukesha, Wis.) each finished the match with one shot on goal.

South Dakota State dominated the advantage in corner kicks, manufacturing 10 attempts in the contest to Green Bay's one.

The next match on the schedule for Green Bay will be Friday, Aug. 28, when Green Bay welcomes St. Mary's (Calif.) to Aldo Santaga Stadium for its home opener at 1 p.m.
