PHOENIX, Ariz. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay concluded play this afternoon at the Grand Canyon Tournament, facing Incarnate word for the its weekend finale in Phoenix, Ariz., at the GCU Soccer Complex. The match started out slow, with the two teams combining for five shots-on-goal in the first half. The first of two scoring strikes in the day came in the 70th minute from UIW's (2-2-0) Noah Keats who buried a header in the Phoenix goal after teammate William Reddman centered the ball for Keats and allowed him to send it into the net.
Green Bay (1-2-1) recorded three shots-on-goal in the 90 minutes of play against the Cardinals, all of which were stopped by the hands of Incarnate Word's keeper Kieran O'Boyle.
This game marked the first contest this season that the Phoenix defense has allowed more than a single goal to be scored in regulation and overtime periods.
Junior Audi Jepson led the Phoenix attack on Sunday, firing off three shots in the contest and putting one of them on the mark, forcing UIW's keeper to make a save to preserve the victory.
Incarnate Word put the finishing touches on the victory in the closing minutes of the contest as Callum Wright snuck one past the keeper in the 87th minute of play, solidifying the 2-0 Cardinals' victory.
The men's squad will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 17 when the team travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, to face the bearcats at 6:30.
